Having been a long standing supporter of the campaign to get redress for the families impacted by Sodium Valproate I was pleased to be at the launch of the Hughes Report into medical devices and medicines.

Dr Henrietta Hughes was appointed in 2022 as the first ever Patient Safety Commissioner and has spent a great deal of time on this report, talking to those directly impacted by pelvic mesh and valproate.

The recommendations in the report are wide ranging and important - most particularly the need for redress for those families whose lives have been permanently affected. I raised with the PM the need to make sure the redress scheme is put in place, and I will continue to keep pressure up on the issue.
