It was great to be at Southampton University last night for a panel discussion on the Women and Equalities Committee Report on Misogyny in Music. A real privilege to be alongside Mezzo Soprano Rosie Middleton, Professor of lute at the Royal Academy of Music Liz Kenny, Dr Liz Gre, Diljeet Bhachu of the Musicians Union and all Chaired by Yasmin Sekhoon Dhillon.
The Report made some pretty hard hitting recommendations as to how we can make women in the music industry safer, and it was chilling last night to hear Rosie’s perspective on misogyny in opera.
The event really brought to life how Select Committee reports can have a real life impact, and how even when an inquiry is over the conversation continues.
