The plight of pubs during lockdown

Tuesday, 3 November, 2020

Today in Parliament I asked the Chief Secretary to the Treasury to consider the plight of pubs during lockdown. They have been told they can sell takeaway food, but not beer. I have been contacted by a number of local publicans, including Jude from The Crown in King’s Somborne on this issue, and outlined to the Treasury how unfair this was. From Thursday you will be able to buy alcohol from supermarkets, but not from the local pub to go alongside your takeaway meal. I hope the Government looks again at this and helps these important community hubs during what is going to be a very difficult time.
