  • Speeches in Parliament

Yesterday in Parliament I again raised the issue of microbusinesses and the self-employed who have not received support from the Government through the covid crisis with BEIS Minister Paul Scully. I am very conscious that whilst there has been an enormous package of support for furloughed employees, there are many instances where people are newly self-employed, or whose work is split between employment and self-employment, or who are directors of limited companies, or with self-employed earnings over £50,000, have not been eligible for support. I have continually asked Ministers to look at ways they can help this group of people, and also raised this with the Chancellor yesterday in a private meeting. I will carry on making the case.
