This afternoon in the House I sought reassurances from the Immigration Minister that all those foreign national offenders scheduled to be deported this week had had their case considered personally by him or the Home Secretary. The 2007 Borders Act does not give Ministers discretion over whether someone who has been sentenced to a year or more in prison should be deported, it is a statutory duty. However it is crucially important that there must be no question as to whether there is any Windrush connection to these individuals.
